Yes you're correct on the inductance meter and I should have added at the
operating frequency range. I had assumed this in my original e-mail. The
wrong size of wire can in some cases cause enough change were turns may have
to be adjusted. This is most important when winding the toroid for the VFO.
Close gauge will probably not make enough difference to matter. I say try
it and see what happens. Can't hurt anything and after all it's a learning
experience.
