[Elecraft] Rx comparison test with the K2

Bob - for what it's worth: The lab test numbers have never meant a lot
to me accept as a place to start. I prefer and can understand a common
sense A/B operating test. I own a K2 and a 756PRO. The 756PRO replaced
my TenTec Omni V (with Inrads). I ran the TenTec and the 756PRO side by
side for several weeks. 99% was cw using the Idiom Press Logikey. I was
(and still am) a TenTec nut, but frankly I felt the 756 WORKED CIRCLES
around my OMNI - so the Omni was sold. I don't believe the 756PROII is
worth the extra cost over a PRO - since I feel the main difference is in
the filter shaping feature. This feature can be done effectively on the
PRO - it just takes a while to figure it out. If you want to know more
about that - email me and I will look up a site for you.
I continually operate the K2 and the 756PRO side by side. It goes
without saying that if I could only have one rig I would have the K2
(which will eventually be a K2/100). Why the K2? simple: 1) I built it,
2) I could probably repair it, 3) I can expand it(new bands for
example), 4) It is small and extremely portable, 5) It comes with this
Reflector, 6) It comes with the Elecraft support team, and 6) It is an
extremely pleasent radio to operate - ie just plain FUN!.
However, in all honesty, I have never found anything on either rig
(756PRO vs K2) that the other rig could not do as far as basic RX and TX
functions go. BUT, they are two VERY different rigs in terms of
OPERATING because the 756 is totally DSP. It took me a bit of time to
get used to operating the 756 even though the controls are very straight
forward. I don't think this can be explained. These rigs SOUND and FEEL
different while operating. I think anyone contemplating a 756PRO should
really try to operate one before buying - because of personal
preference. There is no doubt what-so-ever in my mind that it is a top
notch rig. I love it. There IS a great deal of doubt in my mind as to
whether or not others would feel the same - again, because of personal
preference. So my advice is to try one (PRO or PRO II) before you buy. I
don't think there is any other truly useful way to compare the rigs. Lab
results are not going to tell you what it SOUNDS and FEELS like to you.
Hope this rambling helps.

I noticed some new updates on the Elecraft web site, but none of these included the above radios. I was just curious if anyone has done extensive lab tests, A/B comparison tests etc.

I currently own the K2, 746, OMNI VI+, 761, Drake C-Line. Any information would be helpful since I am contemplating selling my 761 for either an ICOM 746 PRO or 756 PROII. I don't want to make a huge mistake by selling such a great radio as the 761 and then later regret it, hi! Hope to hear from some of you radio aficionados soon. Thanks for your help.
