I'll third this! I've been vaguely looking at an 817 /explicitly/
for VHF contesting! We started doing the VHF contests last year and have
been having a blast! The 9406 has been a workhorse for us as well.
We'll be using mostly mobile rigs in June, but for the CQ 2+6 contest in
July, James (ki7el) and I (kb7psg) will be taking his 9406 and my 9402
backpacking and camping. If we could add an 817 to the list, we could
have three of us QRP/p and then I'd /have/ to build a QRP 220 rig :).
