I hadn't wound a tor in quite a while when I built K2 #2490. I decided to
use the old tried and true method however. It is really not that
difficult and gives good results, including having the leads on the tor
align properly with the holes on the PCB so that the tor is not angled but
rather stays inside the outline on the PCB.

I simply hold the core in my left hand. Then, I take the enameled wire
and pull in up through the hole in the core. When there is about 1.5
inches of wire remaining on the bottom of the core, I grasp that with the
forefinger of my left hand. The remaining turns are simply threaded up
through the BOTTOM of the core and wound counter-clockwise around the
core.

Your milage may vary. It worked for me and not only does K2 #2490 work,
it looks nice too with all components aligned with their outlines on the
PCB.
