George:
Check the K2 manual as it will tell you what components to install for the
options you intend to install at a later time. I always install the jacks
for the SSB option and the Noise blanker. I also install the components on
the front panel for the micrphone circuit while building the front panel
board. I have made up a set of jumpers that fit the connectors for the
noise blanker and ssb board when they are not installed. The ssb board
requires that you have C167 a .001 installed in the J11 connector between
pins 7 and 12 when the ssb option is not installed and jumpers from 1 to 3
on connectors J9 (W2) & J10 (W3). The noise blanker requires a jumper be
installed from Pin 1 to pin 6 (W5). The audio filter connectors can be
installed on the control board prior to installing it but jumpers must be
installed from Pin 1 of J1 to Pin 1 of J2, and Pin2 of J1 to Pin2 of J2 .
If you plan to install the 160 Meter option you can install connector J14
and and connect a jumper between Pins 1 and 7. I highly recommend that you
install J14 durning the construction of the RF board so that you will not
have to remove the heat sink assy when you install the option. Also
recommend you install the P6 Aux RF Jack if you will be installing the auto
antenna tuner option.
Good Luck and enjoy the construction. I will be starting on my 8th build of
a K2 this next week It is here but I must get income tax done before
starting it.....:(

Subject: [Elecraft] Building K2 with options in mind
Greetings All,
I am currently building a K2 and I am at the point where the instructions
are telling me to install some jumper wires on the RF board (W2,W3,W5 I
believe). I know that these jumpers will be removed when I install the SSB
option board (which I am also building). My question is: If I build the RF
board with the parts installed on it that are needed for the SSB adaptor
will it affect the results of the check out and alignment steps for the base
K2? Or should I just build the base K2, check it out and align it, then
remove and/or add the parts required by the SSB board?
Thanks in advance for your help.
