Since the Elecraft manual is quite complete and starts one out with lots of
detail (then reduces the detail level as one becomes accustomed to the
building process), I would say that you will not really need a 'refresher'
before tackling the K2.
What is needed for building a K2 is good soldering skills and the ability to
follow written instructions. The K2 does require soldering in some tight
places later in building the RF board, but the initial steps are done in
relatively 'wide-open' areas. If your soldering equipment is of the
Heathkit vintage, please invest in a small tip soldering iron - or better
still, a soldering station - it is a worthwhile investment IMHO.
If you are considering the 160 meter option, you could tackle that K2 option
to get a feel for building and should you turn out 'junk' you have only lost
the price of that option (and some pride swallowing too) - the instructions
for most of the K2 options do not start out with the 'hand-holding' steps
that are in the basic K2 manual - the option instructions assume that one
has already built the K2 and do not include as much detail.
