The K1 is smaller and has fewer parts, so it takes less time, but it is NOT 
significantly different in the skill level required to build it.  Go for 
the K2 if that is what you want. The manuals are excellent, and as long you 
go explicitly in the order of the manual, you'll be fine.

One thing I would NOT recommend is building one of the option kits first. 
The instructions with the options are somewhat abbreviated compared to 
those in the main kit. They assume you already have the experience of 
building the main radio.
