KI6WH's variant indeed calls for a BNC connector in the EC2, which looks nice.

Eric or Wayne, I don't know how far the KAT2/100 design has evolved already, 
but if possible, could you please give a hint on where one would place the BNC
connector on the back of the EC2 so that it will not collide with the KAT2/100
that will go into the case later ?
