[Elecraft] Poor Audio Report With K2

I picked up an FT-817 used ($600 with all the accessories I want in it 
-- 300Hz xtal filter and W4RT NiMH batteriy pack) and in prime 
condition.  Main reason is for travel (the K2 has become my base radio), 
SWL and VHF/UHF hilltopping afoot.  It will not replace my K1 and K2.

My first contact was on 20 m with an old friend in No. Idaho from LAX. 
 He gave me a 56 report (5 W).  Switching to the K2/100 I got a 59 
report (100 W) but he said the 817 had substantially better audio :-(

Seems I recall a mod to the K2 to improve the IF shape for SSB.  I may 
have done it, but I think not.  Can anyone point me to it and comment on 
its effectiveness.  It looks like I will do that and spend some time 
with Spectrogram when I return from my trip to OR (leaving for Santa 
Rosa then Eugene at 0400 tomorrow).
