 I wish to add to my previous message which was:
OK, now it is my turn.  On page 60 of the K2 manual it says to tap 
PRE/ATT  until  PRE  is turned  on.  No luck, I can tap it all day with 
no luck.  I have it set to 7000 and all that happens is that the carrot 
under the zeros moves each time I tap it. It also says that there should 
be some background sound. Nothing. The audio works as I will get a tone 
if I acrivate   SPOT.  I proceeded with the  BFO  calibration and it 
went perfectly as well as the  VFO  .
I find nothing in the trouble shooting about this.  Now what?

I noticed that my S meter stayed on the left spot. I went over the 
calibration  again andd found that the RF gain control had no effect as 
stated on page 46left column. I also discovered that Q2 on the control 
board get quite hot. Everything else checks fine and the calibration 
tests go fine except the PRE/ATT  will not say PRE.
