Glenn,

I hope I'm not missing your point here....

1) Only the carets above the PRE and ATT labels should change. 
The display does not show the letters PRE and ATT.

2) If you have an antenna hooked up and properly selected, you 
would hear the background noise change as the preamp and 
attenuators are switched.

Does that make sense or did I miss your point?
