Keep in mind that the K1 will run off a fairly low voltage, especially if
you turn the power down. I have an assortment of external batteries I use,
depending on the situation. Probably the most flexible, and maybe pretty
good for the dorm room, is a large gel-cell of the sort sold in the camping
section of Wal-Mart or Target. Mine is 7Ah, which is maybe a little
overkill, but I've seen 2 Ah ones that are real cute. The 7 Ah if fine for
QRPTTF and the like, but I'd hate to backpack it anywhere. But it will run
the K1 for a heck of a long time on one charge.

will primarily be a portable setup since I live in a restricted place and go
away from home to college every 9 months which is even more restrictive. Ive
also ordered the internal battery kit for that reason.

antenna(school club). What is a decent power supply for the rig.Ive read
most of the archives but they mainly deal with the K2. Can i power it up
using a 12V 1A wallwart from Jameco/RS/electronic store? What are other
solutions? Anyone know of any other batteries that fit in the internal
holder other than RadioShack? I heard some Mahas do but Elecraft posts read
some dont.
