As long as it is filtered and regulated it should be fine. Pick one that is
13 or 14v rather than 12 for lower current.

Most AA batteries will fit fine. Just be sure they can supply 1 amp. For
portable ops with the K1, I use Energizer L91 1.5 (more like 1.6 - 1.7 when
new) Lithium photo batteries. They are rated at 2.9 ah (which is amazing)
and are very light weight. Downside is the price - a 4-pack is $10 at
Wal-Mart, and not rechargeable. Because they provide a higher voltage (even
when cold) the radio will draw less current, making them last even longer.
You can also use NiMH if you want to recharge them.
