I had a similar situation with my K1 (KAT1) blanker! Built
it to specs, and it didn't seem to do anything... Tried an
electric shaver, nope....hmm...drill....nope!

Finally, I started hearing a streetlamp turning on and off
nearby and the blanker DOES take that out. It's loud and 
awful -- switch the blanker on, and it is almost completely
eliminated. At the least, I can hear the station I was trying
to work. I still need to track down that light (though it's been
quiet lately so maybe it was repaired or else failed completely).

I do notice some intermod when using the LO threshold, if I remember
right. Probably SWBC stuff. 

I've read someplace that dragging a 9V battery across a file 
is a good blanker test!
