Gee, I use a #10 with no trouble at all! 

I usually rest my hands on the table when soldering to keep the iron and
solder under very good control. I usually just have the board laying on
the table, often on a soft surface so it doesn't slide around.  I rather
dislike board vices because they tend to hold the board up "in the air".
I find that working on boards with my arms in mid-air gets tiring. 

So with the board lying flat, my side of my hands holding the iron and
solder rest on the table on either side of it. The iron and solder
approach the joint from the sides or the edge of the board furthest from
me and I can position my head for a clear, unobstructed view of that I'm
doing.

.... For example, their #10 lense plate is a 3-1/2 magnification but the
focal length is only 4-inches. Kind of difficult to use a soldering iron
when the lense has to be 4-inches from the work in order to be in focus.
