I had to go look it up in the antenna handbook. At 3 wavelengths the
gain is about 2 dB and the angle from the wire is about 30 degrees. An
unterminated wire radiates in both directions but it has more gain
towards the far end due to the energy being radiated as the wave
travels along the wire. The longer the wire, the more pronounced this
effect.
At 5 wavelengths, the gain is 4 dB and the angle is about 20 degrees.
