[Elecraft] Any benefits to a Long "Long Wire"

Based on what I remember 2.5 to 5 wave lengths becomes directional [long
wire] toward the end opposite the feed point.  It will have some amount
of gain also.  I remember I was copying 1 watt on 30 meters with a
fellow that had 600 ft long wire and I would have never known it was one
watt.  At these lengths you must consider a static discharge path to
keep from messing up radio.  I suspect with the Rx qualities of the K-X
series this would be a FB setup.

Won't an unterminated, end fed long wire radiate towards both ends?
