[Dx4win] Unhappy with DX4WIN

Group,

Rather than getting into esoteric discussions regarding file
structure....why don't we just ask for a user friendly, easy to use
application to add a country to whatever database is used....???

This whole thread began when many users attempted to add FJ to their
database...(look back in the December archives if you want to see the
chaos!)...even advanced users had problems!....so there is an "human
interface" problem....

Did you read the well written procedure today by EA8NQ???...Using this
procedure, you could hardly call DX4WIN user friendly!... I would suspect
that the discussion would cease if we had an easy to use update
application!...

The underlying file structure is immaterial as long as the application does
what it supposed to!...the database structure should be transparent to the
users...discussions regarding market-share, profitability, etc. only deters
us from the ultimate objective...a reliable, easy to use and updatable
DX4WIN...

You've stated what may very well be the reason Paul chose the
architecture he did. If so, it's not an excuse, nor is it a
defective design. It was a valid design decision made at the time
for the reason you've stated.

In order for Paul (and or Jim) to change the file structure to
something you personally approve of, there would have to be an
incentive for him to do so. Loss of existing market share, or the
prospect of significant increased market share. Such a drastic
change in the software architecture would be time intensive and have
an associated monetary cost. Since DX4WIN seems to enjoy an
excellent customer base, I doubt they'd be willing to invest such
time and money on a very limited return on investment.
