John, over the years I have settled on a personal rule of thumb of 5/8 wave
length. If a yagi can be placed 5/8 wave length above ground it will
perform. For 20meters this means you need to be about 40 or 45 feet. If I
could place it this high or higher, I would not consider the vertical.
However, in my opinion if it is only 25 feet up, the vertical will out
perform it on dx.
