[DX] eQSL cards - NOW ACCEPTED - for DXCC

Well Charles, I don't see why you don't understand that you created a fuss.
First:
eQSL's are not accepted for DXCC. That remains unchanged, your
controversial subject line not withstanding.
A printed QSL card from the eQSL service, when the service is acting as a
station's QSL manager, is accepted. That also remains unchanged.
A printed QSL card is not an eQSL card. Isn't the "e" in "eQSL" supposed to
mean electronic, ie non-printed?
Second:
A single email from NC1L have been creatively interpreted to imply that
there is a change in ARRL policy. I for one did not interpret it that way,
which you and others disagreed with. Later emails from NC1L's boss, N7NG,
forwarded to this reflector (and which I notice not one proponent of printed
"e" QSL's has commented on) makes it very clear that there was an error in
the creative interpretation.
Again, despite attempts to spin things otherwise, what has changed has not
been the ARRL's stance on electronic QSL's, but how eQSL.cc is using the
uploaded logs.
And by the way, is there human intervention to examine the logs, or is it
all being done by computer? Again, see N7NG's comments on that. If it's
all electronic, no human examining the logs... the printed card from eQSL
(NOT "printed eQSL") may have some problems.
Third:
It appears at first glance -- and I could be wrong, and I hope I'm wrong --
that eQSL is selling the QSL cards printed from their logs. That's in
violation of DXCC rules.
Fourth:
There is a possibility that, as the QSL printing system is currently
structured, that eQSL may not always be acting as a QSL manager with the
consent of the station that they are printing cards for. The long and
short of that is that the DXCC desk may choose to disallow the printed eQSLs
if the station is contacted and denies that eQSL is authorzied to be their
manager. If the response to THAT is that by uploading logs, a station
implicitly appoints eQSL as their manager, fine -- say so. And watch many
people pull their logs (and I'll be among the first).
Fifth:
Abundantly clear and posted since 8 February? In other words... yesterday.
24 hours. And no, it isn't clear. Again, as pointed out above, the change
in policy is eQSL's, not the ARRL's, and by trying to spin this otherwise is
merely muddying the waters and hurting eQSL's reputation.
This isn't a step forwards. It's simply eQSL providing, a little
unconventionally but within the rules, an QSL Manager system. That's a step
backwards for electronic QSL'ing -- but only a step back into the pack.
Finally... how do you contact anyone at eQSL? Outside of an email form to
contact the webmaster, whomever that is, with a problem with the site
itself... I found nothing on the site that tells me who's running the show
or how to contact them. I for one do not want my uploaded contest logs used
to generate cards, and I wish to notify them accordingly.
(Yes, you read that right. I actually use eQSL for some things. I've been
a member for years. I've tried it, and I found it wanting... but that's
another story. Suffice to say, I'm not some old curmudgeon with his head up
his... head in the sand. There's a lot to like about the eQSL concept, but
many things I don't like in this implementation and in the overwrought hype
surrounding it.)

I sure don't see what all the fuss is about....
It has been abundantly clear and posted on the eQSL site since early
on 08-Feb-2002 that eQSL confirmations are acceptable for DXCC "if" they
are processed through the eQSL card printing service.
Now..no one is forcing anybody to do anything..however I have seen
many more posts to the affect that this new acceptance is a good thing
and is something they plan to take advantage of right away. It saves
time, money, frustration and is acceptable by the ARRL right now.
It is progress and IMHO a long overdue step in the right direction.
