[Dx-qsl] Manager bashing

Dave has a very valid point. "Bashing" does no good to anyone, especially
if it turns out that there are extenuating circumstances (such as a mailbox
being closed without notice, as VR2BG mentioned earlier today, or mail that
has been lost/stolen/vanished enroute before ever reaching it's
destination).
Now if I understand this correctly (Dave will no doubt correct me if I'm
wrong! <g>) he has not banned negative comments, but in order for them to
not be considered "bashing" they have to be factually based.
I'm in agreement with Doug that I'd like to know about managers & DX
stations that have unusual requirements or handle things in, shall we say,
odd ways. If, for example, manager GZ3XYZ always requires US$2 for all
cards handled for US amateurs yet always mails them back with a Laguardia or
Kennedy Airport postmark & a $.37 stamp, that is a fact that I'd like to be
aware of (in cases like this, I'd rather send an SASE & a $1 "donation"
instead). But to say that GZ3XYZ is "ripping off" the ham community because
of this, without other factual information -- that's a bash.
I think it's safe to say that 98% or more of all QSL managers due a great to
fantastic job, due a tremendous service to the amateur community as a whole,
and do so for no pay (if anything, it costs them out of pocket) and a lot of
grief. (Anyone up for starting a Grecian Forumula fund for N2OO, KU9C,
W3HNK and the rest to start covering up the grey hairs we're giving them?).
They should be commended and not taken for granted.
But the problem remains that 2% or less who, without getting specific, seem
to have lots of problems with lots of different people. These "problem
children" we need to hear about -- so long as it's factual.

I believe it is appropriate to let the DX community know the stations and
managers that are delinquent to QSL requests. Some delays are explainable
while others are a cash cow for the offending station/manager or postal
system. There has been, is and will be problems with acquiring some QSLs
and everyone should be informed of these problems, delays and personal
experiences. I find comments regarding these problems and how they were
solved to be very beneficial and I hope that these comments will continue.
