Hi Steve:
Well, the answer to your question is that they apparently want us to
help fund their vacations. When's the last time someone did that for you,
hi ?! Over the years I've seen this happen a lot of times, where you send
adequate air mail postage to a foreign country, and get the card back with a
US stamp on it. What did they do with the difference between 37 cents and 2
dollars ? This fellow could have at least stuck one of your greenbacks in
the return envelope to you. A variation on this theme is when cards come
back via the bureau when they were mailed direct with adequate return
postage (2 IRCs in my case). Several of these came in the last bureau
shipment I got - I won't identify them, as we're not supposed to flame on
the reflector !
I've been on several DXpeditions and I didn't expect that someone else
should pay for my fun. In two particular trips to the Caribbean, the extra
IRCs and $ received with QSL requests paid for all QSLing costs, including
printing, and including answering direct requests that didn't come with
postage ! I don't understand why someone would need or want for more !
Lastly, there clearly are DXpeditions where the trip couldn't occur at
all without the proper funding, like 3Y0 etc. My comments are NOT directed
at them...
Best regards, and sorry for
crabbing... Stu KC1F
