[Drake] Tubes???

Actually Jim....If you compared apples to apples, you'd find the old Scott
or Marantz are light years better sounding then the Denon, Pioneer or
Yamaha.
You probably did not have the same set of 'cans' when you were a teen, nor
did you have a clean CD or .mp3 as an input.
I had some expensive Adcom and then Krell solid state stuff, and sold it all
when I heard a tube-type Audio Research setup. I spend a couple grand for
the AR amp and preamp. Then, recently I discovered that like everything
else....the far east build it for less. While not quite the same build
quality...I gotta say, it sounded just as good. So I sold all the AR stuff
and got some no-name chinese amp that uses a quad of KT88 tubes.
Want to really hear that ipod? Plug it in to a tube-type headphone amp, and
get a good pair of Sennheiser cans. You'll be a convert!!
....Dave
