[Drake] Tubes???

James: There really is something behind the "warm sound". A typical
vacuum-tube push-pull Class B transformer-coupled output stage will generate
even harmonics, which are pleasing to the ear. The early solid-state
complementary-symmetry amplifiers, on the other hand, generated odd-harmonic
energy (which is irritating to the ear).

For what it's worth.

Thanks,

I have yet to have anyone tell me what "warm sound of tubes" really
sounds like ...
Is it the muffled, muddy sounds that were typical of the time? You
know... poor dynamic range....
Or is it just someone making up hype to move tubes that they were
otherwise stuck with?
And did they go on to found Monster Cable?
  LOL

You are only half right.....yes , the phools have kited the prices and
any
one of these tubes will work well in amateur service....however, there
is a
big, big difference in sound once you start to play music through them.
Some
tube brands are no good at all for music....some are excellent.
That's a fact.

The audiophools have gone "ape" over the 12AX7 tubes
and they run all over the place in prices due to their
"desirablility" to those persons.

Frankly, the cheapest 12AX7 should work just as well
as the most expensive, especially in any amateur radio
unit. If you want my opinion, like 99.999% of the
audiophools cannot really tell the difference in the
performance between any of the 12AX7 tubes. It is
just that they have been "told" that one brand is
better than another or that one element configuration
is better than another.

I went to "TubeDepot site and checked the prices of
all the tubes in the R4B and got a shock when I looked
at the selection and prices for a 12AX7!!! There must
be about 15 or more different prices. My question is,
which tube is the best one for this application?? Most
mention use in a guitar amp or some other amplifier..

What say, which one is the right one and where might
be the best place to get these tubes???
