I can't imagine why I'd want an R4C - my R4B is about as good as I can 
handle!  And includes calibrator and noise blanker.  Using it on crowded 
CW bands (like last night on 40 meters) it simply does the job, probably 
as well as any receiver I have ever owned or even used.  Turning the 
Passband control a small amount and the offending signal, even an S9 
one, is completely gone.  Was older actually better?  The only R4C I 
ever used belonged to a friend of mine, now a SK (and his ham gear was 
sold to an estate) and I was not impressed, but I do not know what mods 
it had or did not have.  Interesting the comments I have been reading on 
this thread about the R4C.
