Hi Ed,
I think dollar for dollar the R4B is one of the best stock
Drake had to offer. However if your into 160M DX or crowded
conditions the Full Sherwood Drake can really slice and dice
the bands.
Most hams that claim Sherwood upgrades are marginal usually
haven't had a complete upgrade done including extra filter
switching, independent SSB filters, 600 Hz first filter
and INRAD filters complete SSB thru CW. Only then one
realizes when tuning the bands how special and worthwhile
the extra expense is.
My only complaint is most Drakes i.e. TRxx or R4C lack lower
freq audio response. They seem to drop of at about
200-250Hz. The R4B for some reason has better audio
response......perhaps the LC filters are causing this.
I glad we all like Drake's...............Peacock Blue
Rules!!!!
