Yes, Bill you are correct.  I have 15 R-4c's from all the production 
variations with all the mods and stock.  The stock work well and as stated the only 
flaws in design are the power supply and audio circuits.  There is signal bypass 
around the filters but nothing the complain about without being a purest.  I 
use nothing but Drake equipment and I do have an Icom 746 on the shelf for 
comparison.  I even have the sentori tubsters which also ad to the performance of 
the receiver in the front end and mixers.  The unmodified R-4c is still the 
top of the tube equipment pile even with all its problems.
