What's up if the AVC switch is in the off position?, in this way,
you are working without any avc circuit and may be able to vary avc
line at will from a very negative value to aprox. stated -1.4 V.
Q4, 2N3877, is the AVC rectifier/amplifier , take a look at it; also
check diodes in the associated circuits (D13 for example).
