If someone hasn't already mentioned this...
If running the R4 w/o the T4 or T4X connected,
you will need to insert an RCA 'shorting plug'
into the "MUTE" connector on the back in order to
hear the audio when using the NB or CAL functions.

The shorting plug is basically no more than an RCA
PHONO plug with the center conductor shorted to the
outer shell.  If you don't have one, you may need
to drag out the slobbering iron and make one.
Simply find (or buy) a phono plug and solder a wire
down into the tip/center pin and then solder the
other end to the shell of the plug, crude but effective.
