May be normal. Try this. Disconnect the load from the rectifier so the
filter cap doesn't get any voltage (and of course the receiver will be
dead). See if the transformer gets warm on its own. Then any heat in the
capacitor is conducted in from the transformer (through the air, through the
chassis).
I will heat my R4A up and reply back to you in a few hours how warm my
transformer and cap got.

This is the way it was designed. Mine works the same.

Yes. On an AM in the 4.8 position station you should be able to notice it
working.

This is quite common also. If it was perfect you might notices a slight
amount of antenna noise. Does it receive signals?
Maybe compare it on the air with one of the other R4s.
Your English is perfect. Better than my Italian. I think I know two
words - spagetti, and Ferrari !
