The speed would depend also on the stiffness of the main
spring. Stiffer is faster. There may be an optimum ratio of
stiffness to mass but I have no idea of how to define it.
Commerical bugs with very similar overall dimensions have varying
speed ranges depending on the main spring and its condition. My
fastest is a Bunnell J-36, my slowest an old Speed-X, parts of
both are about the same size but the spring stiffness is quite
different.
