[CW] Where did the SINE come from?

 I was going to mention that too.  Never heard of it as a sine,   In the Army, plus in federal telecoms, it was SIGN,  just like in call sign.  We did not, of course, ever ever put a sign out on the air, other than the station call sign. We did sign memos etc. with our initials, such as DD  or DCD, which were my signature for those things.
