   I'm not Ken, but working as an engineer at TV stations we each had to
assign our self a distinctive two letter designation, distinctive from
other engineers at that station (or at that fone company) used when we
dealt with the local phone company.  (long lines division - video)
   I always saw and wrote it as *"sign"* and it was used for reports so
if something came into debate (later) the original engineer could be
contacted to ask him/her if a particular problem was noticed and
possibly when.
   When we reported a problem (on the fone) to "sweet TELCO" we were
always asked:  "how do you sign"?  (as in sign the report?)

   All of that went bye-bye with "C" band TV program distribution.
