Hey David! It was a fantastic article. Thank you!The main thing is, be as active as we can, practice on daily bases, and let the sub-conscious mind work for us.Having a CW QSO is literally, as same, as having a verbal conversation.I still remember the time, when I learned the code. I was only ten years old and I looked at it, as an easy task and part of our hobby, so it was really easy for me to learn it.I started to learn the code at around 15WPM and when I was confident send and copy at that speed, then I was cranked the speed a little bit.It was easy for me up to about 30 wpm, then I was stuck for a short while, because I was writing down everything.Later on, when I met Fero, HA8MT and saw him operating QRQ I realized he didn't wite anything down at all, except log info. From that time on, I was put my pen/pencil away and started to pay attention on words. I was pretty quicky achieved to copy 30WPM code in my head and later it was very easy for me to build the speed higher, and higher.I also bumped in to brick walls, as I attempted to practice code at higher speed, but I got over it in no time.I remember, when I got stuck at 40WPM, I was really nervous to myself, because I couldn't copy that speed.I was consciously paid attention on the code, but, as harder I tried, as worse it became. One morning I was fired up my gear and listened to two Hungarian station while they had a conversation at a real high speed at around 40WPM. I was very calm and had a good mood. All of a sudden something clicked in and I could copy most of it, as long as I used my sub-conscious mind, but as I consciouly paid attention I always lost track of it. Anyway, from that time on I just realized how to copy code and never had any problem since that time.Once I realized how to copy words at 40WPM I moved on to copy whole sentences and it became, just an easy , as a verbal conversation. It is not the end, because any time I wanted to crank up the speed, let's say to 50, or 60WPM I had to relearn the whole vocabulary of mine all over again, because higher the speed gets, harder to copy code at first, because at higher speed, the code souns different any time I crank up the speed. After each barrier I relearned the whole vocabulary of mine, then it became very easy to copy everything.Well actually I can't literally copy every single words, because even in a verbal conversation, a human mind can not hear every single word. Not to mention those words I'm not familiar with. I just can't copy those. Lets say a name , or e-mail address, or cell phone number, or just words I've never heard, or just hear it very seldom.Anyway, I just don't really let those words distract me :-), but keep on follow the main idea " the sentence as whole"After 32 years of practice I can say, that I am literally just sit back and enjoy listen to code at any speed, in a very relaxed state. Don't try it hard! Just go with the flow. It will clicks in :-) 73 Imi HA7AP

>Remember, Richard, If you're not on the air for a while, you're speed goes down. Even after nearly 50 years of doing this, often for 8 to 12 hours a day every day on ship, I now operate about an hour a day. I did some QRQ, maybe it was just my uncoordinated day, but I could not send 45 wpm on the paddles. I did better on the bug, but even the bug didn't sound really good like it did the last time I used it. Forget the hand key, rotten code. Sideswiper worked fine though - I guess it is an easy key to send with. I found it so on ship, the vibrations didn't bother it, and you could rattle off 30 to 35 wpm easily. I admit it is easier to send 35 with a bug for a few hours though. First the Sending goes, then the copying, then the memory goes, then ... ... ... I forget. 73DRRemember, Richard,If you're not on the air for a while, you're speed goes down.
