[CW] methods to increase code copying speed

I am in similar situation. From a high of 20+ I was QRT for a while and
lost a lot.
I downloaded a lot of the ARRL broadcasts at 13, 15 and 20 WPM to my MP3.
My main exercise is bicycle spinning at the local sweat emporium.
I put on the CW, put in the ear plugs and work away. The listening of CW
over the noise of the music and instructor is just like in a contest - makes
you concentrate.
I am now past the 13 and 15 and just using the 20 and am getting much
better. I get most characters and, at times, copy clear words and sentences
as if I was reading it.
A lot more to go to be able to do a QSO at that or higher speed but it is a
start.

The way I got my speed up to pass the 20 WPM for my Extra (cw - the real
one -) was to get on at night around midnight and work the Russians over the
pole - UK9 onward.
They were fast and good CW operators and loved to work US stations on CW.
Really fast operators, especially considering their native code is in the
Cyrillic alphabet. This was before the fall of the Berlin wall so the QSO
was usually 2 by 2 exchanges and then 73 and on to the next one - had a lot
of them calling me in line.
Anyway if they are still there that is a good way, also

Subject: [CW] methods to increase code copying speed

Hi all,

Realizing the copying code at faster speeds (25 + wpm) requires copying the
words and not letters, how does one go about doing this?

Thanks,

Bill, WB9CAC

p.s. it would be nice if when the subject of a thread changes that the
subject line in the message does also. I really don't like looking through
tons of replies to find that there are different topics....just a thought...

Anything about CW - or even Spark is allowed!

I am sure that at least one of the subscribers has a question that can
be discussed?

QSK?
Hand Keys?
Bugs?
Paddles/manipulators?
Abbreviations used by radio amateurs on CW?
Recommendations of radios that seem to be excellent for CW work? (not all
are)
History of radio?
What should I send during a QSO?
Where do I go for slow sending contacts?
I do not know Morse Code, where can I learn it?
What are the good Morse Code programs for Windows? For DOS? For Mac? For ???
Has anyone used CW com the Morse Chat program? Or others such as KOB?
Venting? Hate or Love Contests?
Operating events - advertise them here if they are for CW also!
DX? Did you work a rare one, give the frequency and time - often
stations reappear about the same time/day.
VHF? Does anyone have any CW activity as they do in Europe here in the USA?
Morse Code jokes anyone?

Not much chat about these but there should be.
