[CW] methods to increase code copying speed

Hi all

I will chime in with what i suggested two days ago.
Copy the W1AW CP session that starts at 35 wpm and goes down.
Get a copy of Jim Farrior's "The Mill" available at the Telegraph Office
(google).
I will add that when copying text form the Mill, just listen and RELAX. You
will
read 55 wpm in your head in a couple of weeks.

That's a good question you have asked and I can tell you what I have
been doing.

Over the last 5 years I have been working on code during my morning
drive to work. I figured some people learn a foreign language while
driving, I ought to be able to work up my code skills. I use one of
those MFJ code tutor players. I usually alternate by having it play
words and then call signs.
So after all of this time I am around 27 WPM while driving. I can
recognize words but I wonder if it is because I have most of them
memorized.

When it comes to real code from a QSO, I still can't copy much over
18WPM. My main problem is that I just cannot write it down fast enough.
I tried typing it in on a keyboard and I can't do that nearly fast
enough either.

Do you really fast guys out there actually write down what you are
receiving or just get it all in your head?

Practice, practice.

Hi all,

Realizing the copying code at faster speeds (25 + wpm) requires copying
the words and not letters, how does one go about doing this?

Thanks,

Bill, WB9CAC

p.s. it would be nice if when the subject of a thread changes that the
subject line in the message does also. I really don't like looking
through tons of replies to find that there are different topics....just
a thought...

Anything about CW - or even Spark is allowed!

I am sure that at least one of the subscribers has a question that can
be discussed?

QSK?
Hand Keys?
Bugs?
Paddles/manipulators?
Abbreviations used by radio amateurs on CW?
Recommendations of radios that seem to be excellent for CW work? (not
all are)
History of radio?
What should I send during a QSO?
Where do I go for slow sending contacts?
I do not know Morse Code, where can I learn it?
What are the good Morse Code programs for Windows? For DOS? For Mac? For
???
Has anyone used CW com the Morse Chat program? Or others such as KOB?
Venting? Hate or Love Contests?
Operating events - advertise them here if they are for CW also!
DX? Did you work a rare one, give the frequency and time - often
stations reappear about the same time/day.
VHF? Does anyone have any CW activity as they do in Europe here in the
USA?
Morse Code jokes anyone?

Not much chat about these but there should be.
