[CW] Shielded Cable for Key Connections?

Hi All,
  I have always used shielded cables to connect my straight keys and paddles to the stereo key jack on my rigs.  Is this necessary and/or desired?  I have wondered whether Navy or commercial equipment used shielded cables for this type of connection.  
  Some unshielded cables that I have would be nice to use in a new set up that I am considering.  I could always just try it and see what happens, but wanted to see what you all thought.
