[CW] Etiquette question...

John,
All very valid points. For sure, QRP doesn't work for everyone just like CW
isn't for everyone.
Having been an active CW operator for 50 years, I find copying the weaker
stations fun, challenging, interesting and believe you me, I have snagged
some very good DX that obviously some would have passed over. I learned a
valuable lesson from a very good DXing friend of mine. He starts at the
bottom of the CW band and works his way up, identifying every station he
hears, even if it takes several minutes for a station to sign a call. One
will be amazed at what is there on the bands that many just skim across.

I think this sums it up pretty well.

CW - Some do, some don't
QRP - Some can, some can't

Oh I assure you, VP6DI and many others were worked in a pileup. The
secret, as you know, is to transmit where they are listening. Also, they
were skilled operators, and were willing to listen for the weak signals.

There have been some DXpeditions that have obviously only worked those
stations that were S9 or better. If that's what they want, fine. (The
last VP6DIA operation comes to mind). Heck, there are a lot of
dxpeditions now that don't even work CW any more.

My point is, we are not passing traffic on a commercial basis. This is
AMATEUR radio, and we are supposed to be having fun. If only copying
S9+++ signals is what "floats your boat" that great. There are many out
there that like the challenge, and are proud of their skill at copying
weak signals, and using QRP to get the job done.
