As delivered from the factory, the finger pieces were made of bakelite
and the surfaces were smooth. I find the smooth surface an advantage as
my fingers can sort of glide over the finger pieces and are not stuck to
them. Even well used bugs retain this smooth surface altho they become
concave where the fingers go. I have one old bug that was used in a
press box and the thumb piece has a hole in it from millions of thumb
swipes!
