Let's use CQ as an example,...
On a hand key you go down-up, down-up, down-up, down-up  down-up,
down-up, down-up, down-up.  This is 16 changes of direction.
On a sideswiper you go left-right-left-right  left-right-left-right. 
This is 8 changes of direction and this where the economy of motion is
derived.
