High Wind Warning
Statement as of 3:57 AM PDT on March 28, 2010
...High Wind Warning in effect from 2 PM Monday to 5 PM PDT
Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a High Wind
Warning...which is in effect from 2 PM Monday to 5 PM PDT
Tuesday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.
* Timing: a strong storm system will move into the area Monday
afternoon into Tuesday with a period of high winds in western
Nevada. The strongest winds are likely Monday evening and overnight.
* Winds: southwest winds are expected to gust between 60 and 75
mph in the valleys of far western Nevada including Reno and
Carson City. Wind prone areas such as Carson and Washoe valleys
and foothill locations may receive gusts up to 100 mph at times.
* Impacts: high winds Monday into Tuesday will produce hazardous
driving conditions. These winds will also be capable of
producing considerable damage to property including
trees...power lines...roofs and fences. Areas of blowing dust
will produce poor visibility at times...especially east of Reno
and Carson City. Any unsecured outdoor items such as deck
furniture and garbage cans should be tied down or moved to a
shelter before Monday afternoon.
