High Wind Warning
Statement as of 11:35 AM PST on November 19, 2009
...High Wind WARNING in effect from 7 am to 4 PM PST Friday...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a High Wind
Warning...which is in effect from 7 am to 4 PM PST Friday.
* Timing: wind speeds will increase over foothill locations early
Friday morning...with windy conditions expected down to the
valleys by mid Friday morning. The strongest winds are expected
to occur Friday afternoon just ahead of the cold front.
* Winds: south to southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph will be common
with gusts of 60 to 70 mph. Locally stronger gusts may occur in
wind prone areas and foothill areas near Reno and Carson City.
* Impacts: winds of this magnitude may cause damage to
property...trees and power lines. Strong Crosswinds will make
travel hazardous...especially in high profile vehicles.
Localized blowing dust will also occur...with the most dust
expected along Highway 447 in Washoe County.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A High Wind Warning means strong winds are expected to affect the
area and could cause local damage. Move trash cans...patio
furniture...and other loose items indoors or secure them. Driving
will become hazardous due to strong cross winds. Continue to
monitor the latest forecasts at weather.Gov/Reno.
