The Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association general meeting will be held on 21 September, 2006. Andy Munoz KD7ZEV is giving a presentation on Winlink 2000. Andy is a gifted speaker, and is very knowledgeable on Winlink 2000, as well as other digital modes. For the Amateur service, Winlink 2000 users, whether on the high seas, jungles of a remote region, or traveling in an RV, have the ability to provide their family and friends with the state of their safety and well-being along with the joys of their travels. Mobile users may post their positions on a map and gain access to a host of global text-based and graphic weather information and other helpful material whenever or wherever they need it. The Winlink 2000 system is also utilized for emergency communications where local or regional communications are disrupted, including the loss of the Internet, and where accuracy of information is paramount. Andy's class will provide an overview of Winlink 2000. Information is also available on the web by doing a search on Winlink 2000. The meeting takes place at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church building, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, NV starting at 1900 hrs (7:00 PM). All interested are invited to attend. Come on over, meet fellow "Hams": have a cup of coffee and learn about Winlink 2000.
