[CVRC] Flood WARNING for Carson City, NV

Flood WARNING
10 PM PDT Mon may 23 2005

...A Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice for the
West Fork of the Carson River between Woodfords California and
Centerville Nevada...

...A Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice for the
west Walker River between Walker and Topaz California...

...A Flood Warning remains in effect for the mainstem of the Walker
River in Lyon County Nevada...including Mason...Yerington and
Wabuska...

...High flows will continue through this week on the eastern Sierra
rivers and tributaries...

Warm temperatures will continue to melt the above normal snowpack in
the Sierra.  High flows will continue on the mainstem and
tributaries of the Carson...Walker and Truckee rivers.  Minor
lowland flooding will occur near Coleville...and along the West Fork
of the Carson River from Woodfords to Centerville. Minor to moderate
lowland flooding is expected along the mainstem of the Walker River
and minor flooding of some yards and basements will require some
sandbagging to protect those properties.

Anyone venturing near eastern Sierra rivers and streams...such as
kayakers...rafters...and anglers...should be aware of the high and
cold flows.  Keep small children well away from rivers and streams
as they can easily be swept away.

Hypothermia is another danger in cold water and can set in quickly as
the body's temperature drops to dangerous levels. Warning signs for
hypothermia include uncontrollable shivering...memory loss...
disorientation...incoherence...slurred speech...drowsiness and
apparent exhaustion. Hypothermia can be fatal.

Following are the forecasts...

For the Carson River basin...

For the West Fork of the Carson River at Woodfords...the stage at 9
PM Monday was 13.0 feet. Flood stage is 14 feet. The river is
forecast to fluctuate between 13 feet and 14 feet through Tuesday.
Minor lowland flooding will continue from below Woodfords to
Centerville.

For the East Fork of the Carson River at Markleeville...the stage at
7 PM Monday was 5.6 feet. The unofficial flood stage is 7 feet. The
river is forecast to fluctuate between 5.5 and 6.5 feet through
Tuesday.

For the East Fork of the Carson River at Gardnerville...the stage at
10 PM Monday was 6.5 feet. Flood stage is 9.5 feet. The river is
forecast to fluctuate between 7 and 8 feet through Tuesday.

For the Carson River at Carson City...the stage at 8 PM Monday was
7.2 feet. Flood stage is 10 feet. The river will fluctuate between
6.5 and 7.5 feet through Tuesday.

For the Carson River near fort Churchill...the stage at 6 PM Monday
the stage was 8.0 feet. The unofficial flood stage is 10 feet. The
river will remain above 7.5 feet through Tuesday.

For the Walker River basin...

For the West Fork of the Walker River at Coleville...the stage at 9
PM Monday was 8.4 feet. Flood stage is 9 feet. The river will
fluctuate between 8.0 feet and 9.2 feet through Tuesday. Minor
lowland flooding will continue between Walker and Topaz.

For the West Fork of the Walker River near Wellington...the stage at
6 PM Monday was 6.8 feet. The unofficial flood stage is 7.5 feet.
The river will remain above 6.5 feet through Tuesday.

For the mainstem Walker River near Wabuska...the stage at 6 PM
Monday was 9.2 feet. The unofficial flood stage is 9.7 feet. The
river will slowly rise to near 9.5 feet on Tuesday.

For the upper Truckee River...

For the upper Truckee River at South Lake Tahoe...the stage at 6 PM
Monday was 6.1 feet. The unofficial flood stage is 7 feet. The river
will fluctuate between 5.5 and 6.5 feet through Tuesday.
