Jim,

I would suggest taking Dick's suggestion but doing one more thing. Put
the lightning arrestor at the antenna and run a separate "heavy" copper
ground wire to the biggest ground rod, or field of ground rods you can
get in the ground. My web site also has some great information on
lighting and lightning protect.  Check it out.

In addition, most 2 meter antennas use UHF connectors which are not
waterproof. Seal them up well.
