Special Weather Statement
317 am PDT Thu Aug 12 2004
...Heavy rainfall is possible over the Waterfall fire burn area and
Carson City on Friday and Saturday...
Moist and unstable air will begin to move into western Nevada today
and continue to increase through Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms
are expected to develop over and near the burn area during the
afternoon hours on Friday and Saturday. The increased moisture
levels could allow showers and thunderstorms to produce heavy
rainfall.
The destructive nature of the Waterfall fire has created a high flash
flood potential in an area west of Carson City. Heavy rainfall could
produce a flash flood in as little as 20 minutes. If heavy rainfall
does not affect your location...a flash flood is still possible if
you live downstream of Kings...ash and vicee canyons or near a steep
slope burned by the Waterfall fire.
Residents in Kings...ash...and vicee canyons as well as those living
in Carson City should stay tuned to the National Weather Service and
local media outlets for a possible Flash Flood Watch.
