Announcing the SARA Digital Net
Starting this Sunday, Oct 31, we are going to have a digital net every Sunday
night at 9pm after the regular voice net.
The digital net will start off on 146.460 FM. That is a simplex frequency on
which we can do digital as well as voice (if needed). If someone needs it, we
can even go up on HF frequencies for some of the transmissions or use a repeater
for short transmissions.
The goal of the net is to provide a regular gathering in which people can learn
about, try out, and practice the digital modes. Whether you're trying digital
for the first time and need help, or want someone to check out your signal, or
want to try a new mode, or want to practice having a digital QSO, or even want
to try out a new macro, please join us.
Over time, we'll also use the net to test out area coverage of different modes,
find out which modes provide the best error detection and correction, and
practice with various NBEMS functions such as FLARQ.
I'll start the net by calling CQ on 146.460 using PSK31 mode. I'll also monitor
the SARA 2 meter repeater for anyone who might be having trouble getting in on
146.460. Note again that 146.460 is an FM simplex frequency and you can do
voice on that frequency.
Also, don't forget that Tony O'Connor (KB1SUN), Jon Solomon (W3EIC), and I have
open a standing offer to help if need help getting on digital (how to hook up
the computer to the rig, which interface to buy, how to install the software,
how to use the software). We'll try to help you over the air/via email and if
necessary we'll arrange to come to your QTH to help.

P.S. I realize that this Sunday is Halloween, but most of us are pretty much
done with Trick Or Treater's by 9pm. If you're not don't worry about it. This
will be a weekly event.
