I don't know what time frame you are referring to, but at least in the
early to mid 50's, mmf referred to "micro-micro" (also referred to by
some as "mickey mikes") or pico.
I have run into "M" used as a thousands multiplier in 30's schematics,
rather than the "M" for millions multiplier as used in the 50's forward.
As I recall, (and my memory probably isn't any better than yours!,) the
"mmf" to "pf" change took place about the same time as the "Mc" to "MHz"
change, i.e., mid to late 60's.
