[Collins] Grounding attachments S-1 line

The 62S-1 is a farily scarce piece of equipment! Wish
I had one! I use a Hallicrafters HA-2 transverter
(poor man's 62S-1) for 2 meter SSB and a Heath SB-110A
transceiver for 6 meter SSB.

I use the center screw on the bottom at the rear on
those pieces of equipment that have them (not all
Collins S-Line units have this machine screw).
Otherwise I have adapted other screws, etc., on the
chassis to get a good ground. Frankly, I do NOT use
any "plug in" ground on any piece of my equipment.
Everything is held by either a screw into the chassis
or by a nut on a machine screw that comes from the
chassis. I want my grounds to have to be removed by
some conscious action by me and not by accident as can
happen with a plug in ground.

I am a firm believer in grounding every piece of
equipment. This is for r.f., safety, and to a lesser
extent lightning protection. Frankly, lightning
protection should be taken care of outside of the
building. You don't want lightning inside under any
circumstances!

Again, for "hints" on proper grounding go to either
website that is listed at the end of this message.
There are several methods of achieving a good r.f.
ground and for lightning protection. What I outline
is just one of these. However, I do not use any
products made by specific manufacturers and the things
that I do use you can make yourself for usually less
than 5% of what you will have to pay for identical
commercially produced items.

I must be the only one using a 62S-1 with an S-line.
BTW, the 62S-1 does not have a ground terminal, but
with the "Rats nest" of shielded cables connecting it
to the 32S-3 I did not worry about it. After this
discussion I will add a ground to the center cabinet
screw .
