[Collins] trim ring

Removing the trim ring is facilitated by using a small block of wood from
within the cabinet itself and bumping the edges of the trim ring on all four
sides until it pops off. You will find that the fit is rather tight to the
cabinet. It may take some stout smacks on the wooden block to dislodge the
trim ring. Using a screwdriver, for example, and trying to pry the trim
ring off will only mar the trim ring, of course. Go from inside using the
technique described.
I would further recommend that you mask off the lip of the trim ring before
repainting so when it comes time to remount the trim ring to the cabinet,
you don't have any difficulty with the fit. Use a towel and a piece of wood
to gently tap the trim ring back on the cabinet. You want to avoid marring
your new repaint of the trim ring.
I might add that there is no satisfactory way of masking off the cabinet or
trim ring to repaint. You have to remove the trim ring if you're going to
get a "professional" job. The results will be worth it if it done
correctly.
The biggest hurdle, in my opinion, is finding the paint. To the best of my
knowledge, there is no one producing a satisfactory paint spray. The cans
that I have gotten from Surplus Sales and others do not work to my
satisfaction. I have my paint mixed locally and use a professional spray
gun in a paint booth. You may want a local automotive paint shop do the job
for yourself.
Once piece of advice. Take your time. You will be surprised at the results
if you are careful.

Subject: [Collins] trim ring
> HI.
> Iam in he process of rebuilding my 312b-4 all done except the cabinet. It
needs to be repainted and I can not figure how to get the plasic trim, off
the cabinet front edge. If I have to, I can mask the trim but thats not a
good way.I need to sand the cabinet and the trim will get scratched. If I
screw the trim up is there any where in the world ,I could get another one.
Iam hopeing the trim is not cemented to the cabinet edge.
